about

Otto & George
Otto Peterson was an adult-themed ventriloquist. He would bring his dummy on stage (George) who would often spend the entire show verbally abusing audience members while Otto, himself would keep a straight, sometimes confused face the entire time. Otto struggled with depression, poverty and drug-abuse. He used George as a means to “let the venom out” and to cope with the daunting facets of society. What I loved about Otto was that he essentially made a living off of his own mental illness. He used to have breakdowns on stage when his dummy would say to him “You’re talking to yourself, you’re having an argument with a hunk of wood, get help you mentally ill fuck”. And it was Otto literally confronting his own mental illness, on stage and the crowd loved it. This song was just taking a quick voyage through his mind, or at least what I imagined it would be. Although his act was raunchy and abusive, Otto lived a pretty wholesome life and was described by his friends and family as being very kind and well-spoken. Otto died in the spring of 2014, but I was able to reach out to his widow, Trish. I sent her a version of the song and asked if she was okay with us releasing it. She said that it was fine and that Otto would have liked for a band to even give a shit about his work.

lyrics

Torn, split like a lunatic
Watching the movements that make me sick
Venom, it’s haunting, gotta let it out
Venom, it’s daunting, gotta let it out
George sees you for what you are
The world is changing and oh so bizzare
Venom, it’s haunting, gotta let it out
Stoned again, there’s love in my eyes
Only friend, it’s hard to see life
It’s me, it’s me and my head, it’s not just a laugh
For you and your friends
My friend, what’s with you now?
Your head sinks so low, you seem sad and so lonely
My friend, come with me now
We’ll break all the windows and drink until morning
My friend, can you not see?
The promise of heaven is nearing us swiftly
My friend, can you not see?
The strings that made me are the strings that will kill me
My friend, be kind, be honest
The people will tear us limb from limb to sawdust
Pain
It's my biggest fan
So sweet and sad
I want to cure him
