Anhedonia
This song is about not being able to feel happy, no matter how good things are in your life. The narrator, like our “flagellationist” resorts to self-mutilation as a result of his psychosis. However, in anhedonia it’s not so much that the narrator is trying to escape anything, but rather he wants to feel something. In fact, “anything at all”. He watches the world unfold around him, but because he is emotionless, his life has no meaning to it. It would be agonizing, but he’s incapable of agony. He can only feel through physical stimuli. He hangs from the ceiling with hooks in his back holding him up, it’s the closest thing he has to emotion.
lyrics
Sun melts the snow
Rain falls from overcast glow
It’s how everyday goes
And here you are
Here we are
Floating
With hooks in our backs
We put them there
Just to feel anything
Just to feel anything at all
A mind-blowing batch of jazz-informed hardcore exploding with drill-press riffing and throat-destroying howls. Really great! Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 6, 2022
